At least 14 people were killed and 28 injured on Sunday when a truck slammed into two passenger buses stopped for repairs on a highway in Mexico's northern state of Chihuahua, police said. "One of the buses stopped due to a mechanical failure and was partially off the road. Another bus stopped behind it. Apparently neither vehicle used warning lights, and a tractor trailer slammed into them," Chihuahua Federal Police officer Andres Valle said. One bus burst into flames in the crash and 14 people perished in the fire, he added. Officials said the death toll from the accident on the Pan-American Highway could rise as several of the injured were in critical condition. Valle said all the crash victims were aboard the bus that had stopped to help the first bus change a tire. The passengers of the assisting bus remained on board, while those of the bus being repaired had gotten off and were unharmed in the accident. The tractor trailer slammed into the occupied bus in such a way that its doors were closed stuck, trapping the people inside when the fire broke out, Valle said.

The accident occurred at 2:20 a.m. when the No.1322 passenger train was affected by a landslide. The locomotive and six carriages were derailed. Seven people were slightly injured and the Litang-Zhanjiang railway, which links Guangxi with Guangdong Province, was cut off. A Greek passenger ship hit a rock Saturday and was slightly damaged in the eastern Aegean, but was able to continue to a nearby port under its own power, the Ministry of Merchant Marine said. The ship, "Theophilos," was carrying 475 passengers when it crashed into the rock near Oinousses island, about 14 miles (22 kilometers) from its destination port on Chios island, the ministry said. Ship passengers told Greek TV stations that no one was hurt, but that the rock had left a gash in the ship's hull from which oil appeared to be leaking. They could not say how much was leaking, and authorities did not comment about the oil or give details about the ship's damages. The crew initially directed passengers to lifeboats, but then called off the evacuation when it became clear the ship could proceed on its own. It was directed to anchor just outside the small port in Oinousses, just over a mile (2 kilometers) away, where Coast Guard divers would examine the hull breach. Smaller boats transferred passengers from Theophilos to the port, the ministry said. The ship had been ferrying people to Chios from the island of Lesbos.
