Mid Ocean Ridges:

Mid-Ocean Ridges are places where the Earth's tectonic plates are gradually moving apart, and as they do, upwelling magma rises up to fill the gap, so that new oceanic crust is formed. This magma provides a heat source that creates many hyrothermal vents ("black smokers") along the ridges which transport heat and chemicals into the ocean. (Image by Robert Simmon, NASA GSFC)

There are three great classes of ridges: fast, slow and ultraslow​

“Fast-spreading ridges” like the East Pacific Rise (100 to 200 millimetres per year)​

“Slow-spreading ridges” like the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (20 to 40 millimetres per year)​

“Ultraslow-spreading ridges” like the Southwest Indian Ridge (less than 20 millimetres per year)​

รอยแยกนี้ส่วนมากปรากฎอยู่ในแผ่นมหาสมุทร ตามที่ปรากฎในภาพ
และที่ไหววันนี้ก็อยู่ในมหาสมุทรอินเดีย ฝั่งตะวันตกของบ้านเรานี่แหละ
ไม่ไกลเลย แรงกว่านี้อีกหน่อยคนฝั่งอันดามันก็ได้วิ่งกันอีกแล้วครับ

นี่จึงเป็นโลกแตกของจริง อย่างอื่นไม่ใช่นะครับ

การไหวตัวของแผ่นเปลือกโลกครั้งนี้เกิดขึ้นบนรอยเลื่อนเจดีย์สามองค์ ที่ได้รับโมเมนตั้มจากการไหวของแผ่นดินรอบด้านที่เกิดขึ้นไม่ว่าจะเป็นจากบริเวณนอกเกาะสุมาตราเหนือ บริเวณ mid indian ocean หรือในทะเลอันดามัน ซึ่งมีรอยเลื่อนสุมาตราเป็นรอยเลื่อนหลักที่เคลื่อนที่บ่อยครั้ง ส่งผ่านแรงให้รอยเลื่อนสะแกงในพม่าที่อยู่ถัดขึ้นมาด้านทิศเหนือซึ่งไหวไปหยกๆ ดังนั้น บรรดารอยเลื่อนต่างๆที่เป็นแขนงของรอยเลื่อนสะแกง เช่น รอยเลื่อนเจดีย์สามองค์ รอยเลื่อนศรีสวัสดิ์ รอยเลื่อนแม่ปิง เป็นต้น เมื่อได้รับโมเมนตั้มก็จะสะสมแรงเค้นอยู่ระยะหนึ่งจนพลังงานเกินขีดแรงเค้นแล้วรอยเลื่อนเหล่านี้ก็จะเคลื่อนไหวเพื่อปรับสภาพสมดุล

Mount Etna Flares Up: Top Eruption Images through the Years (Day & Night

The Mount Etna, the highest and most active volcano in Europe at 3,295
meters (10,810 feet), spewed lava on the southern Italian island of Sicily
during its latest eruption Sunday.
Ever since its first eruption several million years ago, the Mount Etna has
been erupting most frequently.

The latest eruption on March 18 is its fourth eruption this year which spewed ash plumes as high as seven kilometers. The Mount Etna previously erupted on March 4, Jan. 5 and Feb. 9.

While no threat to nearby habitat and air travel is reported, here's a slideshow presenting some of the photos of eruptions of the Mouth Etna over the years.

SECOND ONE: IS AN ANNULAR ECLIPSE (WHEN THE MOON ALMOST COVERS THE ENTIRE SUN), WHILE ECLIPSES ARE FAIRLY COMMON THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT FALLS PRECISELY ON 20 MAY 2012, AND WILL BE VISIBLE FROM THE MEXICAN SOUTHEAST AROUND 5:56 PM. TWO DAYS LATER ON MAY 22, 2012, WE CAN SEE THAT MERCURY AND JUPITER ALIGN VERY CLOSE TO THE SUN.
THE THIRD ONE: IS A PLANETARY ALIGNMENT, A TRANSIT OF VENUS. BECAUSE TRANSITS OF VENUS OCCUR IN PAIRS, IT HAS TWO PARTS. THE FIRST WAS ON 8 JUNE 2004, THE SECOND, EIGHT YEARS LATER, WILL OCCUR ON 6 JUNE 2012. Mount Etna: Introduction



Mount Etna is Europe's highest and most active volcano. Towering above the city of Catania on the island of Sicily, it has been growing for about 500,000 years and is in the midst of a series of eruptions that began in 2001. It has experienced a variety of eruption styles, including violent explosions and voluminous lava flows. More than 25% of Sicily's population lives on Etna's slopes, and it is the main source of income for the island, both from agriculture (due to its rich volcanic soil) and tourism.

Mount Etna: Plate Tectonic Setting
Mount Etna is associated with the subduction of the African plate under the Eurasian plate, which also produced Vesuvius and Campi Flegrei, but is part of a different volcanic arc (the Calabrian rather than Campanian). A number of theories have been proposed to explain Etna's location and eruptive history, including rifting processes, a hot spot, and intersection of structural breaks in the crust. Scientists are still debating which best fits their data, and are using a variety of methods to build a better image of the Earth's crust below the volcano.

Mount Etna: Eruption History
Etna's eruptions have been documented since 1500 BC, when phreatomagmatic eruptions drove people living in the eastern part of the island to migrate to its western end. The volcano has experienced more than 200 eruptions since then, although most are moderately small. Etna's most powerful recorded eruption was in 1669, when explosions destroyed part of the summit and lava flows from a fissure on the volcano's flank reached the sea and the town of Catania, more than ten miles away. This eruption was also notable as one of the first attempts to control the path of flowing lava. The Catanian townspeople dug a channel that drained lava away from their homes, but when the diverted lava threatened the village of Paterno, the inhabitants of that community drove away the Catanians and forced them to abandon their efforts. An eruption in 1775 produced large lahars when hot material melted snow and ice on the summit, and an extremely violent eruption in 1852 produced more than 2 billion cubic feet of lava and covered more than three square miles of the volcano's flanks in lava flows. Etna's longest eruption began in 1979 and went on for thirteen years; its latest eruption began in March 2007, and is still ongoing.
