    Cookies, Cocoa, & Christmas 2018

    Weaverville/Douglas City Parks & Recreation District will hold its 2nd annual Cookies, Cocoa & Christmas event from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at the Recreation Hall (building next to Lowden Park Pool).

    Sponsored by Trinity River Lumber Company, this fun and free family event has just the right amount of holiday cozy with a splash of fun. There will be stories by the fireplace read by guest storytellers: Tim Saxon, Janet Saxon, Dave Cox and Karen Marceau. The Trinity High School Friday Night Live group will once again be Helper Elves! Kids will have some fun making ornaments for their Christmas tree.

    The Trinity County Animal Shelter has partnered with us this year to present an Animal Adoption and Domestic Petting Zoo area! All can enjoy some play and love time with kitties, puppies and other fun domestic animals. You may find that one fur baby that must go home with you! Adoptions will be available on site.

    Christmas photo areas will be available for all who want to grab a family photo or just the best selfie of the year. Join in this Sunday for some cookies, cocoa, animal snuggles, crafts and stories by the fireplace.

    Apples for Christmas

    The Weaverville Fire Department Is selling caramel apples for its Christmas fundraiser. Handmade and wrapped, they offer these flavors — Oreo, Heath, peanut and sprinkles. $10 a piece. Great for Christmas gifts. Contact Serena Brown at 623-6156 or stop by the Fire Hall, 125 Bremer St., Weaverville, and pick yours out today. Limited quantity.

    Winter Solstice celebration

    Chagdud Gonpa Rigdzin Ling will hold a celebration commemorating Winter Solstice from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22. They will conduct a traditional Buddhist smoke offering (Riwo Sangchod) and light hundreds of butterlamps, marking the turning away of darkness and the beginning of the return of light.

    Chagdud Gonpa Rigdzin Ling is at 341 Red Hill Road, Junction City.

    New Year’s singing bowl meditation

    Ring in the New Year by gathering in sacred community to center your hearts and focus your intentions during a singing bowl meditation at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at Trinity Congregational Church, 733 Main St., Weaverville. Chimes, flutes and drums will accompany the singing bowls.

    No cost to attend; donations will be accepted. All ages are welcome. For more information, call 623-3101.

    Crab and Pasta Feed

    North Trinity Lake Improvements Association will hold a Crab and Pasta Feed Saturday, Jan. 19, at the IOOF Hall, 20 Scott Road, Trinity Center. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m.

    Dinner includes crab, pasta, salad, bread and homemade dessert. No-host beer and wine available.

    Cost is a $50 donation. Reservations are required by Jan. 9 — call Betty at 266-3807 or Terri at 266-3307. Sixty-person limit.

    Proceeds will be used for improvements and repairs for the IOOF Hall.
